Summer 2018 Volunteer Spotlight: Kelly Argenta

Kelly Argenta has been a smiling face as a volunteer in TLC and child care for the past three years. Kelly is a native of New York State and retired form various occupations ranging from corporate administration to instructional education and has lived in Gettysburg since retiring in 2013.

She began volunteering in childcare because of her love of children and babies and has continued to volunteer because of the friendship and fun that the little people bring to her life. Kelly volunteers approximately 8-10 hours per week. Kelly includes creating with Play-Doh, doing puzzles, singing, and interacting with the kids, as being some of the best moments of her service. “The rewards that I receive from teaching children socialization skills, including manners and sharing, are countless,” says Kelly. Kelly and her husband enjoy playing their ukuleles for the little people on special events and holidays.

While Kelly might think of Dostoyevsky’s quote “The soul is healed by being with children” when she thinks of her service, we here at the YWCA think of Mr. Fred Roger’s words: “anyone who does anything to help a child is a hero to me.”
