Spring 2019 Friends Letter

As I reflect on the past thirty years of my employment with the YWCA Gettysburg & Adams County, I realize that we, as an organization, and I, as an individual, are truly blessed! We have the staff and facilities to offer our community so much – like a year-round childcare program for more than 290 youngsters and the only indoor pool open year round to the public. Once Memorial Day is here, we lease an outdoor pool and, this year, we’ll make it a public pool – the only one in Gettysburg! We have the Margaret Trew Cline fitness center, a space used by anyone over the age of 13 to lead them to a healthier lifestyle! And we couldn’t be more grateful for the many members, foundations and businesses that helped us reach a new milestone this past year, the success of a $900,000 Endowment Campaign to help us promise the future of our YWCA!
I am blessed for the meaningful friendships that developed at the YWCA, for the awesome staff that lead beside me and for the thousands of contacts I’ve made throughout the years.
The YWCA has been a part of the community for 90 years. We have worked tirelessly to make our community a safer, healthier and more compassionate place in which to live. For the past thirteen years, I have led this organization, along with a creative and engaged management team, to build strategic partnerships, bring valuable programming to everyone and to ultimately live our mission!
Our mission, dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all, is as relevant today as when it was created. Our mission is what has kept me engaged for over 30 years – the mission and YOU, our friends of the YWCA.
As a local nonprofit, we have had our share of ups and downs. Through our difficult times, we may have struggled, but our commitment to service has never wavered. We continue to see promise in the eyes of the children who pass through our doors. We acknowledge the gifts given by those before us. And, we are grateful for the strong and vigorous support of our community. We are in a good place because of all of you!
We need you to keep moving forward. Please be a part of this lasting and important mission in Adams County with a generous gift. It makes a huge difference; I know, I have been honored to see how every dollar counts every day for the last thirty years. Every gift, no matter the size, is important, and I sincerely appreciate your thoughtful consideration in making a gift this spring, the final ‘ask’ of my career as I retire on June 30, 2019. I will remain a part of this great organization, volunteering and finally getting to use more fully the wonderful amenities that are offered! I’m hoping that I’ll actually have time to get to know all of you even better!
Thank you for your support and confidence over the years; we wouldn’t be where we are without you!
My deepest admiration and appreciation to all,
Deb Geesey
