Water Fitness Classes

*If the Gettysburg area school district cancels school or has a delay due to weather, then all morning fitness classes are canceled.

Our water fitness classes run the gamut of fitness: some focus on strengthening joints and muscles, while others offer a hard workout to tone your body and help you lose weight. Everyone enjoys the friendships they make through classes, and the camaraderie keeps them coming back for more.

Water fitness is safe and easy to learn. Classes include cardiovascular, strength and stretching exercises. Participants are encouraged to work at their own comfort level and intensity.  The YWCA provides barbells, kick boards, noodles, and resistance cuffs for use in classes.  Everyone is welcome to try any water fitness class one time at no charge.


Advanced Hinges & Twinges:
Arthritis Foundation Water Fitness with Linda
Tues & Thurs 8:45-9:45am & Mon, Wed & Fri  11:30-12:30pm
This class is for people, who are very mobile without pain, and would like a tougher workout without aggravating their arthritis.  The class will still strengthn balance and diminish pain.  The instructor is certified in water fitness to help people with different types of arthritis, diabetes, and sports related injuries.

Easy Movin’ & Groovin’ Arthritis Foundation Water Fitness with Connie ends February 7th
Tuesday & Thursday 10:45-11:45am
A low-level workout in shallow water for all ages and ability levels. Emphasis is on walking in the water, easy range-of-motion movement for joints, simple stretching, and balance. Excellent for those with muscle or joint aches, are recovering from surgery, or have not exercised in a while. Taught by a certified Arthritis Foundation instructor.

Swing N’ Sway with Danielle
Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10:15-11:15am
A workout for senior adults that includes stretching, muscle strengthening and cardio set to big band music.  The class is in the shallow and deep ends of the pool.  Any and all equipment will be provided.  This is a low to medium workout.

Advanced Dig Down Deep with Danielle 5:30-6:30pm
An overall exercise routine for all ages set to upbeat music that includes shallow-water low-impact warm-up, deep-water cardio workout with abdominal work, and shallow-water cool down and stretching.  Appropriate for all activity levels and abilities, this workout combines cardiovascular exercise with strengthening, toning, and balance.  Great for recently retired women!  Equipment used varies.  Child care available with advance notice.


Deep Water Fitness with Danielle
Monday, Wednesday & Friday  9:20am-10:10am
This is a challenging medium to high intensity workout in the deep water set to music.  Buoyancy cuffs and barbells are used in the deep end.  Participants must be comfortable in deep water.  This class has lots of fun, as seen in the photo above.

*New Class* Liquid Assets with Terry Terrell
Saturdays 9:00-9:45AM  Beginning February 4th
& Wednesdays 5:30-6:15pm (March 28-April 18 only)
This is for active and healthy adults who want a medium to high intensity workout for muscle toning with aerobic exercises.  The workout will take place in the shallow and deep ends of the pool.  The exercise routine is set to music, and all exercise equipment will be provided.

All the water fitness classes are free to try for your first time.
We charge a small fee to help offset ongoing cost of maintaining safe water quality. All the above water fitness classes run on a punch card system, so you will never lose a class you paid for.  Punch cards expire a year from the date of purchase.
