Locally incorporated in 1929 when Irene Danner Reinewald bequeathed her home on Lincoln Square to the development of a local YWCA association, the YWCA Gettysburg & Adams County has maintained a leadership position within the community, addressing the changing needs and concerns of area women and families.

Our mission is to promote greater understanding of our own community's rich diversity and build a foundation from which to build a more just society for all residents through a wide and ambitious range of programs and services.

More than childcare and a health and fitness facility, we serve a variety of people, young and old, with broad programming initiatives and partnerships.  The YWCA is home to dozens of community programs, including a nationally recognized Elderhostel site bringing more than 1000 visitors to Gettysburg each year.  Our local and high school swim teams practice and hold meets here.  VolksMarch, parent/child playgroups, bridge and book clubs all meet here.  The YWCA hosts Senior Center activities, AARP courses and youth sports camps.  Each summer the YWCA offers one of the few road races run on national Civil War battlefield, attracting hundreds of runners and families from the region and across the globe.  The YWCA is a community organization that brings people and families together.

The YWCA is also a service organization.  Through local organization and agency partnerships we are able to bring a better quality of life to many of the special needs populations in our community.  Our fitness area and indoor heated pool are used for physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation and obesity programming.  We offer a RoboLab club encouraging 5th and 6th grade girls to explore careers in science, engineering and to underserved youth and youth-at-risk through joint programming with four local service agencies.  Community programming brings education, nutrition and health classes, blood screenings, blood drives and volunteer services to Adams County.
